Cecil Beaton, Edith Head, Orry-Kelly...My Fair Lady, An American In Paris, Now Voyager, Auntie Mame, The Easter Parade...that's how it all started. I love classic movies. I LOVE hats. Always have. Period.
My story as a hat designer takes me from Venice, California to Maui, Hawaii to Manhattan Beach, California, back to Maui and eventually to New York City in my quest to design hats, follow my heart, and grow my business.
Leave Maui? I know everyone always asks me how and why I could leave the beauty of Maui.
But as much as I loved living on Maui for 20 years and making the hats I did, I just couldn't get the call of NYC out of my mind and heart. I had this feeling deep down that I needed to be in New York. So finally I took the leap and came.
Within three days of being here I landed a job working with a top NY Milliner, Barbara Feinman. It was like being paid to go to school. Having been self taught for all my years I was now discovering the formal art of millinery, how to block, the art of making a true fedora. My heart burst open so wide and the hats you see today came from that one leap of faith.
One leap, many hats. Still going strong.
