Put Your Imagination Goggles On!
The Ladies In Waiting
Just a few stitches away from being complete... BIG REVEAL coming next week!
Statement making. Compliment magnet. Showcasing You. Utter Style.
Spring is right around the corner and Katherine Carey Millinery is BACK! What can I say, hats are in my soul style and this designer caught a big case of Spring Fever. Inspired by the apparel collections I have seen emerge for the upcoming season, I wanted to bring forth one signature style that would compliment any event be it Easter, the Kentucky Derby, Ascot, or just a fab Spring Brunch.
That said, here at KCM we are doing things a little differently this time. Moving forward, I am thrilled to announce that I have found a wonderful millinery company in NYC to "soon" produce my highlighted line, The Hat Of The Season. Anticipating the beginning of production as soon as this Summer!
For this season though, Let's Chat "The Hat Of The Season" for Spring 2020, handmade by moi in the Desert!
We begin with one. The Hat of the Season. One perfectly whimsical, not for the wall-flower, ready to make a statement, Day-to-Event Chapeau in three variations... because, you know, everyone is unique!
Let's chat Bette...and her Sisters.
Bette first came around a couple Springs ago. I had this desire to make a playful hat that offered shade, a classic shape but definitely a statement. Three whimsical bows turned this classic lampshade into something WAY more fun!
Above: Original Bette purchased in 2018 from The Hat Shop in NYC. The client had this fab skirt from Prada and this is the concept she was going for for her Kentucky Derby look.
On one hand you could wear it to the exclusive Central Park Conservancy Luncheon or to the Kentucky Derby (as shown in pic), but the best part is that this super fun, ever so chic chapeau could also be worn poolside, drink in hand, cabana chair, large sunglasses, you get the idea.
After working at The Hat Shop in NYC and seeing women spend $$$$ on beautiful over-the-top hats that really had to have a special occasion (which I loved designing too!)...
I designed the Bette to be an investment that could do
more than just a one-time event accessory.
She's perfect for your Springtime Soiree wherever that is, be it the Derby or a friend's wedding, but she's also great for the farmer's market, the beach, a weekend brunch, church or even as your main hat for traveling.
She truly is multi-functional FAB!
Three Styles, HEAPS of Imagination!
Now I am not kidding when I say "heaps of imagination". This is truly a sneak peek at the design process side of these styles and will require your Imagination Lenses to get a feel for what is coming.
A Modern Classic Lampshade
What's en route for this former classic?
Well, there are a few design updates about to happen to this style (shown as it was before in 2018 here).
The Modern Day Woman needs less fuss and more wearability, the updates to the Bette are the following:
She is getting a modern day streamlined makeover!
She will have a clean edge. Meaning no ribbon bound edging. For the New Bette, she's much more streamlined. A clean modern edge. Not fussy, just fab!
She will release her hat band. The statement is so much more powerful with just the three bows, no center band.
The 2020 Parisian Topper
If you know my work, you likely know I LOVE making these Toppers. I call this style the Parisian Topper. Every season I come out with a new vibe of this look.
So for 2020 Spring, it's the Beatrice. A modern three bow trim. Raffia straw in natural with black grosgrain or hand-dyed sisal straw paired with dyed ribbon in a tonal spring color palette. She'll have a clean modern edge just like her big sis, Bette.
The Spring 2020 Bluestocking
A true KCM Bluestocking style, shorter crown but with the three stylized bows that make her part of the Bette Family. Pair this with a party dress or a simple suit and grab the attention for just being so dang chic!
Like her sisters, she'll come in natural or hand-dyed Spring palette colors with tonal trim.
Now for the really FUN part!
Yes, even more fun than the shapes and trims above.
The Colors Available!
The Spring 2020 Bette & Sisters line will be made in fancy weave sisal and natural raffia. For the hand-dyed Spring Colors, fancy weave sisal will be used. The raffia will be for the natural with black trim. I designed this to suit each style. The natural straw version is the most wearable so a sturdier material is perfect, plus the texture of the raffia is awesome. The hand-dyed options are perfect with the fancy weave sisal. Each sisal straw weave is unique and, on my end, I will choose the best weave for the style selected. Making your hat a true couture One & Only.
Colors will be hand-dyed (by moi) with... get this... squeeea... matching tonal bows! SQUEEEEA!!!! So you receive a gorgeous hat in a vibrant spring color with a variety of textures yet also, interestingly, neutral to pair with your favorite Spring ensemble.
That's right! The style is there. The whimiscal trim is there.
But it's about the WHOLE picture, it's about YOU!
The hat is not over-taking you. Rather it's in harmony with your outfit du jour because it's tone on tone and texturally delightful. I am seriously so EXCITED!!!
Here are the color offerings I am bringing forward this Spring, along with the natural raffia/black trim option... I do love a classic!
All styles come hand-dyed in the colors listed with tonal colored grosgrain bows.
